Our Vision
To educate and empower women through creation and support of community.

Our Mission
Anam Cara Foundation is an independent non-profit organization with the primary mission of  providing and creating an environment of safety for women to share knowledge and experiences, to generate discussion and dialogue that support the growth and development of each women and to empower the women to effect change in themselves, their lives and in the public consciousness. We do this by providing opportunities to facilitate personal growth, networking, community building, spiritual growth, and leadership development for all women.

Our Objectives

  • To create a safe, comfortable environment for women to explore their experiences
  • To hold workshops, facilitated experience sessions, and retreats on subjects designed to encourage the women to explore new skills and behaviors.
  • To make the opportunity affordable for all women
  • To create a structure that takes input from women all across the community in order to develop programs that will meet their needs

Our History
The Anam Cara Foundation was initially developed by Michelle Burns after identifying a need in the community for a space where women can come together to develop a community of support.  Studies show that women are generally more able to cope with stress and make significant improvements in their lives when they have a support network of other women.
Initially, a group of 12 women came together to participate in the first group. The initial group were all women who were experiencing a major transition in their lives, whether a recent divorce or retirement or a need to change careers. Nine of the women completed the initial group experience and found it valuable.  All felt the group met its goal and wanted to see the group continue.

The organization became a nonprofit in 2008 and continues to add opportunities for creating community and support.
